Breast Cancer Awareness Knowledge Base
Breast Cancer?I'm 17 and a senior at highschool and a student at the School of Nursing and I'm a huge advocate for Breast Cancer research and support. I'm always wearing my pink ribbon and my pink ribbon necklace and I have many breast cancer/pink ribbon clothing articles. Since it's breast cancer awareness month I tried to see what my community//county and surronding cities are doing to support...........and I found out...completely nothing. At the highschool football games I take donations and sell pink ribbons. I'm getting some pretty positive responses from this but I need more. Does anyone know where I can get free materials for breast cancer awareness other than just printing stuff off the internet?
Breast Cancer?Oct. is National Breast Cancer Awareness Mo., as you know. As one who had breast cancer, & a mastectomy, 1 yr. ago this mo. I want to caution women against putting off mammograms, & self checks. Millions of women have had or have breast cancer. What advise would give someone about the importance of testing? What is your story? Mine is the radiologist wanted me to wait 6 mo because the tumor was small. get this, to see if it grew. I refused to wait. She didn't know if it was cancer or not. Just wait because it's small.? As it turned out, I had the cat scan, biopsy, and mastectomy all in 1 wk. because I had cancer. Last yr, 5 women in my family were diagnosed with breast cancer. Had I waited, who knows. I told that radiologist she had no right telling women to wait. A history begins with 1 person. My advice, DON'T WAIT. What's yours, Thank you
soccergi. Your chances of getting breast cancer may be a little higher than someone else. but @ 14, don't worry yourself about it. Live your life good. If you're mother didn't get it, I would say you're pretty safe, but when you reach 40, have that mammogram, OK
Alphapoi. Sorry, but a foam bra cannot protect you from breast cancer, nor infections. The cancer is in the milk ducts. An infection would only affect surrounding tissue. Thank you both for your input
Roxie-You are so right. They do say 40 for a mammo, but I agree, it should be earlier. You are exactly what I'm talking about. A history begins with 1 person. Hope you get well soon. Thank you

The Ellen DeGeneres's breast cancer awareness show in all pink did anyone see this episode of Ellen? How many of you have seen the Ellen's breast cancer awareness show, this was a good episode of her show especially for women with breast cancer and women who have had breast cancer and survived, before I move on I wanna say if you look on my 360 page, I haved changed my theme to breast cancer awareness month, I am not a female though, anyway I will change it next month, anyway, did anyone see Queen Latifah and Ellen play pictionary, I was confused about this game, anyway I saw the little boy who I think is helping fight breast cancer by driving one of those big trucks, I think the truck was nashcar and one of his favorite car drivers sent him a lot of toys and stuff, I could tell he was happy,
I wish I was a kid again, nahhh I don't, did you see queen Latifah perform a song from her new album, I didn't know she was a singer, I was shocked I forgot what was the name of the song, but I loved the song, I wonder why use the color pink for breast cancer awarness month, but I love the color
I love pink, look on my 360 page you will see a lot of pink, also u will notice a change on Ellen's website in color

Breast Cancer Awareness pins?I bought one of those pins that say "Give Strength" and it has the Breast Cancer Awareness ribbon on it. Everytime I wear it, someone asks me if I have breast cancer or have lost someone close to me who had it. The answer is no for both, but the reason I wear it is cause I want to show my support to B.C. research. Why do people assume that I either have it or lost somebody who had it? Is that the real reason people wear those pins + should I stop wearing mine?
Who is tired of this Breast Cancer Awareness ??I am, the other day I was in Walgreens and they sell countless things for Breast Cancer, They even sell Pink M&M'S for this cancer, So where is the awareness for the men who develop testicle cancer, By the way kills more people in the 15 to 50 year old age group then breast cancer, I think a little more Priority would be fitting on the group that needs the support the most,,,According to the California Cancer Registry, and the American Cancer Societies Cancer Facts and Figures 2004, there were 411 new cases of breast cancer in women 0-50 and 461 new cases of testis in men. Testicular cancer is usually more serious because it is at a more advanced stage when young men finally get it checked. Yet a recorded message while waiting to speak to someone at the American Cancer Society suggest women 20 and over have a mammogram every three years.
Annoying breast cancer awareness? Why is it that so many people make such a big deal about breast cancer awareness? there are so many other diseases out there that people can talk about, why isn't there prostate cancer awareness month. I think it is all annoying and WAY over done, why make something out to be worse than it is and put to much emphasis on it. Stop all this annoying pink ribbon crap.. it's on EVERYTHING I'm about to stop buying anything that remotely supports it cause it's too over done, I'm to that point, is anyone else with me on this???
Matthew, Prostate cancer doesn't just effect the old it can also affect young and it is very devistgating to a family because it is detected less and therefore kills more, I'm not just talking about prostate cancer, that was just a example what about heart disease month or lung cancer awareness, Why involve businesses to have that stupid pink ribbon, talk about it amoungst yourselves Why involve everyone that doesn't care about it!!
Breast cancer awareness charms?i saw a commercial for breast cancer awareness cell phone charms at payless shoes but the 2 stores i went to had no more...does anyone know if i can get one online?
Breast cancer awareness robe?Nautica has a robe out for breast cancer awareness. It's striped pink, fluffy, and incredibly soft. I saw it in a Macy's store, but didn't buy it then, and there isn't a Macy's near me. Any idea where I might find it online to buy?
I've already checked the websites for all major department stores without any luck.

Please wear pink (guys too) and show support to all our loved ones. (I lost my Mother just 2 months ago).......

AIDS and Breast Cancer awareness? Why do organizations always say they are trying to raise awareness of these 2 diseases? If you watch TV, you would think that these are the only 2 diseases that exist. Have people really not heard of these, before? Is Breast cancer the most lethal disease on earth?
Cake designs for Breast Cancer Awareness?I am going to be baking some cakes for a Breast Cancer Awareness Event next month to put in a cake/cupcake walk. I already know what I'm going to do for most of them, but I wanted to do at least one Pink Ribbon themed cake and one bunch of cupcakes. Does anyone have any ideas, tips or websites I could go to to check out ideas?
Thank you for any answers, it will be very much appreciated.
What will you do to promote World Breast Cancer Awareness Day?My wife Marjory has just finished a horrible two years of treatment for breast cancer. She's blogged the story on http://www.twinkletwinkles.com so that others can benefit from her experience.
Tomorrow is World Breast Cancer Awareness Day - what will you do to promote it?
Is it weird to have my bridal shower theme be "breast cancer awareness?I am really supportive of breast cancer awareness and i figured instead of a traditional favor (candle, pic frame, candy) i wanted to donate money to a breast cancer foundation. I also want to give pamplets out at the tables and pins and my game gift will be based around products that donate money when purchased like at bed bathe beyond and such. Will my family think something is wrong with me. Is it weird. This is a womens function and what better then this. cancer runs thru my family.

Very Important!! Breast Cancer Awareness. Please read?Mastectomy Hospital Bill in Congress
A mastectomy is when a woman's breast is removed in
order to remove cancerous breast cells/tissue. If you
know anyone who has had a mastectomy, you may know
that there is a lot of discomfort and pain afterwards.
Insurance companies are trying to make mastectomies
an outpatient procedure. Let's give women the chance
to recover properly in the hospital for 2 days after
surgery.
Mastectomy Bill in Congress
It takes 2 seconds to do this and is very important...
please take the time and do it really quick!
Breast Cancer Hospitalization Bill - Important
legislation for all women.
Please send this to everyone in your address book. If
there was ever a time when our voices and choices
should be heard, this is one of those times. If
you're receiving this, it's because I think you will
take the 30 seconds to go to vote on this issue and
send it on to others you know who will do the same.
There's a bill called the Breast Cancer Patient
Protection Act which will require insurance companies
to cover a minimum 48-hour hospital stay for patients
undergoing a mastectomy. It's about eliminating the
"drive-through mastectomy" where women are forced to
go home just a few hours after surgery, against the
wishes of their doctor, still groggy from anesthesia
and sometimes with drainage tubes still attached.
Lifetime Television has put this bill on their web
page with a petition drive to show your support.
Last year over half the House signed on.
Sign the petition by clicking on the web site
below. You need not give more than your name and zip
code.

This takes about 2 seconds. PASS THIS ON to
your friends and family and, on behalf of all women,
THANKS.
Breast cancer awareness... help?I am 16 years old... I have felt something like a "knot" on my right outter breast near my arm. It feels as if there is one similar to it on the other side. My breasts feel somewhat sore too... I know I am young and do not know much about breast cancer but could you please help me
Breast Cancer Awareness?I know wrong section but this is too important to worry about that..
As Breas Cancer Awareness Month comes to and end has everyone (males and females) remembered to do a self check and get a mammogram if you need to?
Rahs Rahs Rahs
Save the Ta-Tas..
Here's how to do a self exam...
http://www.breastcancer.org/symptoms/testing/self_exam/bse_steps.jsp
Edit... Breast*
No Problem Luken...
That's great Tash, get the partners involved my husband loves helping out with the self exam :) He calls it Boobie Check.. LOL
I am also a survivor of breast cancer 7 years..
If we can get people to think about it once a year it's a start after we get them thinking we can teach them about monthly self exams.. Once a month same time of the month and keeping a journal describing in term of their own what the different areas of their breast tissue feels like... Hint people use foods to describe the texture, foods come in so many textures there is a food texture to describe any texture you want...
Poem for breast cancer awareness month...its really bad but yeah....check it outties!?I wasn't but 12 when I got you
Now I am 30 and losing the fight.
They told me it was a matter of life
They said it was all I had to do.
The tests, exams, and visits
I couldn't bare it anymore
The long days of wondering when I'll be better
I prayed everyday for it to go away, Please help Oh Lord!
It grew more each day
They said I would lose the battle one day
If it was ridden of
So I let them take it..they took it all.
Now like a child I lie in the bed
Crying and wondering really why me?
Why did I have to lose it all to breast cancer......
The poem is not about me its just for breast cancer in general and all the women who have dealt with it or are dealing with it! I wrote it because it is breast cancer awareness month...
Did you know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month?I was diagnosed this past May with Stage One Insitu Receptor Positive Breast Cancer. Had a lumpectomy and sentinal node removal in June(nodes were negative)had 33 days of radiation. All's well. During my jouney, I met some wonderful people who where suffering far worse than I was. So Brave, So Strong. Let's wear our pink ribbons and spread the message of early detection....Can you tell me your story?
Got any photography/design ideas for breast cancer awareness fund raiser?I'm going to try to do the Breast Cancer 3-Day walk this year. I'm a photographer and would like to design a calendar for part of my fund raising. I haven't done the walk before, otherwise I would use my photos from another year. Basically I need some ideas for the cover as well as for 12 months. I need some type of generic photo of women or pink things, maybe girlie stuff I don't know. Just brain storming here. What do you think about random photos of girlie things, some of girls, women, walking shoes anything else? I'd like for it to relate to all women and men if possible, but not necessary.
It's my engagement party soon and I was wondering if it's inappropriate to sell Breast Cancer awareness stuff?I am a supporter of the Pink Ribbon campaign that helps make people aware of breast cancer and raises money for vital research. It's my engagement party in a few weeks and I was thinking of selling merchandise there. Not walking around shoving it in people's faces, more so just having a little tray of stuff (eg. pens, badges, magnets etc...) for people to buy if they choose to. Do you think this is inappropriate?
I guess also I wanted to point out that the Pink Ribbon foundation is non for profit and is the largest breast cancer awareness and funding organisation in Australia.
Just also wanted to point out that a number of my family members and my Fiance's family members have been touched by Breast Cancer - knowing someone who has been diagnosed or someone who themselves has been diagnosed for it.
The 'box' of merchandise is no bigger then an A4 piece of paper and would probably sit where the Coffee is being made.
My engagement party is very informat - it's at the local footy club and is in the form of an afternoon tea.
As I stated in the original question, no one would be asked/pestered or even encouraged to buy anything - it will be there if they want to and hey, if I don't sell anything, I just send it back with what I have already sold by just having the box here in my home. It's amazing how much you sell when you have firneds over for Coffee! lol.
The other thing is that I don't make any money ouf of this (obviously!).
Breast Cancer Awareness game?what do you think the score and the shots on goal will be between the DETROIT RED WINGS and the san jose sharks?
This is a very special game and to all california people out there you are all in our prayers!
So october is breast cancer awareness month eh. I'm guessing every male has made at least one joke by now?seeing as how october is all of 3 days old
im guessing they all fall along the lines of:
"oh im definitely aware of breasts!"
"if any girls need help examining their breasts, i'm willing to do this"
"mmm, boobies, yay"
but i won't make a joke, because i have that much class. ok, that and because i'm sure all the decent ones have been taken
(seriously though, stop donating money and start donating education, make sure all the women in your life that you adore and worship get yearly mammograms every year if they are over 40, and self exam monthly if they are past 25)
"i dont make jokes about cancer" oh golly gee beaver it sure is nice in fairy tale land
back in the real world, cancer jokes are lots of fun. and if you haven't realized that sometimes the best you can do is joke about thing you can't understand then you've got some learnin' to do beaver
