What can I personally do to truly help the fight against cancer?

Think of all the "PINK" products you see in the store- Buy this pink tooth brush, pin, hat, mug car magnet and 5% of the price will be donated to the fight against breast cancer. Sure, it costs the same as the regular item that I was already going to buy so why not go for the pink? But are those few extra cents REALLY going to the good use stated? What about other types of cancers? There are a few people in my life with one each a diffrent type of cancer and I want to raise awareness and give my money where it counts. What can I personally do to truly help the fight against cancer?

1. How kind and thoughtful of you. There are many organizations that raise money for various cancers, but the American Cancer Society helps with all types. They also help the families of cancer patients. I cannot tell you how grateful I am to the people of the Cancer Society for helping me find housing while my husband spent three months in a hospital too far from home to commute daily. They also offered me a shoulder to cry upon, advise in many areas, and even helped me pay my housing expenses when the money was running low.

2. visit cancer patients at clinics or hospitals...you will find many ways to help there, with finances, emotionally, faith, but most definitely you will help yourself sleep so much better...Bless you for your concern. someone is waiting to see you.
3. I have the same issue with certain types of illnesses that get all of the press. My wife did not die from breast cancer, but she is still very dead. I don't want to take anything away from a person with cancer; I also don't want anything taken away from people that don't have the cancer du jour.
   
   My approach is to answer peoples questions. I hope that it helps them to feel less alone and isolated, and it helps me to heal.
