- Lys j is quite wrong - most breast lumps are NOT cancerous.
Early breast cancer can have no signs or symptoms at all. Any changes in the breasts are cause for concern; that's why it's important for women to check their breasts and become familiar with the way they normally are.
Possible indications of breast cancer are:
change in size - one breast may have become noticeably larger or lower
nipple change - if it becomes inverted (pulled in) or changes its position or shape
rash - on or around the nipple
discharge - from one or both nipples
puckering or dimpling - around nipple
swelling – in your armpit or around your collarbone (from lymph nodes)
lump or thickening - that feels different from the rest of the breast tissue
constant pain - in one part of your breast or in your armpit.
Most breast lumps are not cancerous, but all need investigating.
- I don't want to be negative or scare you, but 80% of women who have felt lumps and gone to the doctor finding out that its true do have breast cancer. best of luck. i hope its not true for you.
- i would definitely get one
don't put it off
it might just be nothing or it may be cancer
i'm no telling you to freak out or anything, but you should be concerned for your health
the earlier you catch cancer, the easier it is to treat
much love--
- Get yourself check as soon as possible. But sometimes those painful lumps are because you might be wearing a wrong size bra or taking too much caffeine. But plz get examined.
- Painful lumps are rarely breast cancer.
But the link below will give you a lot of the information that you're looking for. As you read, remember that the most common breast cancer type is invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC).
- There are many causes of breast lumps. Some of these causes are harmless, while others can be painful and/or dangerous. Causes of breast lumps include infections, injuries, non–cancerous growths, and cancer.
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer–related deaths in women in the United States. Currently, death rates from breast cancer are declining. The decline in death rates may be due to a combination of earlier detection and better screening as well as improved treatments. While most breast lumps are harmless (benign), every breast lump should be evaluated by a doctor to exclude or establish a diagnosis of cancer.
Infections that cause breast lumps
Infections of the breast are known as mastitis. Mastitis is especially common in women who are breastfeeding a baby (lactating). When the skin of the nipple (areola) is injured or cracked, such as occurs with nursing, bacteria can enter the wound and cause infections. In a breastfeeding woman, a hard area commonly thought of a "clogged milk duct" can form. Sometimes, certain treatments (see below) can prevent the painful, hard area from developing into an actual breast infection (mastitis). Infections can either be a deep pocket of pus, in which the infection looks like it is growing down into the breast (an abscess), or a wider area of skin redness that spreads out (cellulitis). Body piercing in the nipple area increases the risk of breast infections that may be particularly difficult to treat.
