Stage One Breast Cancer?

My mom was recently diagnosed with Stage One breast cancer. The surgeon felt that the surgery went well and she began radiation treatments today. Are her chances for recovery good?

Public Comments

  1. Her prognosis is VERY good. With the exception of the surgeon not doing a good and thorough job of making sure her cancer was all removed, her survivability rate at 5 years is better than 70%.

My mom had both breasts eventually removed from stage one cancer (she had a recurrence 8 years after her first mastectomy), and she lived for another 25 years before finally passing away this past February from heart failure.

I wish your mom AND you well.

(BTW - since your mom was diagnosed -- assuming you're not a guy, but rather a woman using a different account/name -- it is very important for you to be exceptionally proactive in your breast health. Get a base line mammogram at or before the age of 35, and do your monthly exams and investigate ANY irregularity, even if it means you're at your doctor's office every month. Good luck to you).
  2. Yes, I had stage 2 and I am still alive after 3 years.
She has you to help her out and support her. Breast cancer support groups help also if and when she feels up to going to one.Prayer doesn't hurt either.
